S. Catherine Anderson holds a B.S. in
Financial Management and a Juris Doctorate degree and was a partner in the
law firm Few & Anderson, a firm specializing in complex civil litigation on
referral from other attorneys. Her primary areas of practice included
product liability, catastrophic medical negligence, commercial contract
litigation, antitrust, and securities litigation.
In 1984, she joined the faculty of the
McColl School of Business at Queens College. In addition to having held
administrative positions as Assistant to the Vice-President of Academic
Affairs and Vice-Chair of the McColl School, she teaches ethics and legal
environment of business in the MBA and EMBA programs. Cathy’s teaching
garnered her the Grier Distinguished Professor award and the first Fuqua
Distinguished Educator award.
Her academic and professional service
work has included serving as staff editor for the Journal of Legal
Studies in Business, Journal of Legal Studies Education, and The Bar
Tab. She is a member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business, the
South Carolina Bar, and the Mystery Writers of America. She has written or
collaborated on five books and numerous articles, including a volume on
legal damages for South Carolina Jurisprudence and articles on
monopolies, employment rights, and business ethics.
She offers management seminars on topics such as employment law, sexual
harassment, negotiation, writing skills, health care law, and business
ethics. Her consulting and speaking experience is diverse: she has spoken
at national symposia on emergency research issues and given testimony
before FDA/NIH joint hearing on informed consent in emergency care
research; helped research and evaluate the economic impact of a South
Carolina gold mining operation; and offered seminars to banks, internal
audit teams, hospitals, health care groups, not-for-profits, city-county
government, property managers, civic leadership training programs, and
others.
