Herbert L. Henkel was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ingersoll-Rand Company in May 2000, and continues as President and Chief Executive Officer. He came to Ingersoll-Rand in April 1999 from Textron, Inc. where he was president and chief operating officer, where he had previously served as both president of Textron’s Industrial Products segment, group vice president with responsibility for Textron’s industrial segment, and president of Greenlee Textron. Before joining Textron, Henkel was president and chief operating officer of Southern Fastening Systems and Unifast Industries, Inc. He had previously served as vice president of sales and marketing for Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company and Hilti, Inc.
Henkel holds a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering and applied mechanics and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic University. Also, he holds a master’s degree in business administration from Pace University. He is a director of C. R. Bard Inc. and the 3M Company.

Dr. Jack Caravelli has over 25 years of experience in national security issues, including service at the highest levels of government. Dr. Caravelli most recently served as a senior adviser to the Department of Energy’s Office of Plans and Policy. He served on the White House National Security Council staff as Director for Nonproliferation from 1996-1999. From 1999-2002 Dr. Caravelli was Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Department of Energy and Director of the Office of International Material Protection and Cooperation. Dr. Caravelli began his career with the Central Intelligence Agency, serving in various managerial, staff, and analytic positions from 1982-1996, and has also been featured in the USA Today, NOVA, and ABC News.
Currently, Dr. Caravelli is a visiting professor to the United Kingdom Defense Academy in Shrivingham, England. In addition, he serves as an Advisory Board Member for Oxford University’s International Security and Counterterrorism Program and as a Director for The PAM Institute with offices in Washington, DC and Charlotte, North Carolina. He holds a Ph.D. in International Affairs from Georgetown University.

Dorrit J. Bern became President, Chief Executive Officer, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Charming Shoppes, Inc. on August 23, 1995. Previously, Ms. Bern played an integral role at Sears, Roebuck & Co. as Group Vice President of Women’s Apparel and Home Furnishings, and has held merchandising positions at The Bon Marche and Joske’s, divisions of Allied Department Stores.
Since her arrival at Charming Shoppes, Ms. Bern has initiated numerous programs designed to give something back to the communities the Company serves, through clothing donations, awareness campaigns and partnerships with nonprofit organizations.
Ms. Bern is a member of the Board of Directors of Southern Company and OfficeMax® Inc. She has received numerous awards including: the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s 2006 Paradigm Award; the H.U.G. Award (Help Us Give); the Moore College of Art & Design Visionary Woman Award; and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in Greater Philadelphia. She is a 1972 graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in Business, and has three adult sons.

Ellen Ruff is President of Duke Energy Carolinas. She joined Duke Power in 1978 as an attorney in the legal department, and was named vice president and general counsel of electric operations following the formation of Duke Energy in 1997. Here career moves included: vice president and general counsel of corporate, gas and electric operations in January 1999; and senior vice president and general counsel in February 2001; senior vice president of asset management for Duke Power in August 2001; senior vice president of power policy and planning in February 2003; group vice president of power policy and planning in March 2004; and group vice president of planning and external relations in March 2005.
A native of Hartford, CT Ruff graduated from Simmons College with a bachelor of arts degree in business, and earned a juris doctor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a member of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the North Carolina State Bar. Ruff serves on the Executive Committee of the North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry’s board of directors and was appointed in 2006 by N.C. Governor Mike Easley to serve on the North Carolina Economic Development Board. Ruff is a member of the board of directors of the United Way of Central and is also incoming board vice chair of the Charlotte Regional Partnership and serves on the board of directors of Aqua America, Inc. She and her husband, Tom, have a daughter and two sons.

He is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. Mr. Raymond is a member of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), The National Cargo Bureau, and serves on various industry boards. He currently serves on the board of the McColl School and also the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Raymond is the recipient of many industry honors including induction into the International Maritime Hall of Fame, receiving the coveted Admiral of the Ocean Seas award, selection as the Maritime "Good Scout Award" by the Boy Scouts of America and in 2005 Mr. Raymond received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Dr. Patrick C. Graham is the President and CEO of the Urban League of Central Carolinas, Inc. Previously, Dr. Graham served as the Director of Emergency Financial Assistance and Economic Self-Sufficiency at Crisis Assistance Ministry from 2001 to 2007, and prior to that as Executive Director for the Martin Luther King Center in Long Beach, NY.
Dr. Graham is currently President of the Diversity Council of the Carolinas and a board member for the Energy Committed to Offenders organization. He is also on the board of the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness. Graham was recently voted Omega Man of the Year by the Charlotte chapter of Omega Psi Phi in November 2007. In 2006, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity named Graham Citizen of the Year for North and South Carolina. He also participated in the Leadership Charlotte program in 2005.
